Time for harvest

Some special helpers were busy digging up spuds at the Matamata Community Garden on Monday. Nigel Ashley, Belinda Magill, Raewyn Walker and Henry Smith unearthed bucket loads of potatoes destined for the local food bank. Beryl McGurk, from Intellectual Disability Empowerment in Action (IDEA) services, said this type of activity helped the group to feel valued and involved in the community. It was also educational and they planned to make regular trips to the garden to help out and watch the plants develop. The garden is open to all Matamata residents and is located behind the Union Parish on Peria Rd.
