Bike ride ends with a banger

Matamata Chronicle - - News -

More than 55 people from the Matamata region and members cycled the annual Matamata Peddlers Heart Week gold coin fun ride last Wednesday.

The event attracted both experienced and novice cyclists ranging in age from toddlers in tow to a sprightly 86 years.

The evening was a combination of the club’s involvement in Bike Wise month, the New Zealand Heart Foundation’s annual appeal week and the opportunity to promote the club and the recreational sport of road cycling.

Members escorted the nonmembers around the 21 kilometre course, from Founders Park, along Tower Rd to Turanga o Moana and home via Waharoa, finishing with a well-earned sausage or fruit washed down with a cold drink, all compliments of the club.

While the many varying abilities meant the cyclists were spread out widely around the course, the fun attitude and enjoyment was obvious to all.

The evening finished with all riders signed in, being eligible for the many spot prizes courtesy of Sport Waikato and Matamata Cycle & Sports.

The gold coin donation raised a very generous $236.60 for the Heart Foundation.
