A club to call your own

The Matamata Workingmens Club, better known as the Workies, is a friendly club and one of Matamata’s best kept secrets.

Hidden down Arawa Street, the Workies offers great weekly activities including pool, youth pool and the club draw. On occasion there is also live music and karaoke.

Manager Hendrik Engelbrecht has had a lot to do with the friendly atmosphere and unique events they ran last year. Outside braai barbeque with fire dancers, hangi, competitive pool competitions and a variety of live music events were some of the most memorable evenings of the year organised by Hendrik.

“We really want to keep the club simple yet host some one of a kind events,” said Hendrik. “It’s a club that you can call your own, catch up with friends or make some new ones.”

A new menu has been recently introduced and offers a great range of food at very reasonable prices, plus they have a $10 meal deal every Friday.

An annual affiliated membership is only $25 and allows you to join in the fun and competitions plus gives you access to other clubs as part of the Clubs New Zealand Affiliation.

The vision for 2013 is to make the club bigger and better with more events and great nights.
