Tennis club courts get major upgrade

Matamata Chronicle - - News -

A joint venture between the Matamata Tennis Club and the Matamata Netball Club to resurface their three ‘‘Rebound Ace’’ courts was completed earlier this month.

Three of the seven courts at the Matamata Domain complex were first coated in the rubber and fibreglass blend in 2006.

Rubber Ace was the official surface of the Australian Open for close to 20 years and its light green colour makes it ideal for playing twilight tennis under lights.

After seven years the club was two years past the recommended maintenance period and the top of the surface was discoloured.

The application of three layers of acrylic topcoat and new non-skid line markings will extend the life of the surface for another five years, providing the town with an international quality playing surface.

The week-long project was completed by Tiger Turf New Zealand, with funds saved by both clubs through seasonal support from their sponsors.

Matamata tennis club president Shannon Crawford said all the club needed now was more people to play and enjoy the facilities.
