Water supply reaches critical level

Matamata Chronicle - - News -

Matamata- Piako District Council increased water restrictions to ‘‘critical‘‘ in Matamata and Morrinsville last week, as the water supply reached record lows.

‘‘Reservoir levels in Morrinsville are the lowest they have been since the dam was built in 1988,’’ council group manager service delivery Fiona Vessey said. ‘‘Similarly, in Matamata and Waharoa we are hav- ing to supplement the main town supply with bore water, and the bores are showing signs of stress.

‘‘We really need people to make an effort to save water, and only use it for essential purposes like drinking and bathing.’’

The council is encouraging residents to report anyone ignoring the water restrictions or using excess water by calling 07 884 0060.
