Hall important community link
Walton Hall will turn 100 years old next month and Walton residents are invited to help mark the occasion.
An afternoon tea will be hosted at the hall at 2pm on April 6 and residents will have the chance to share stories and reminisce.
This will be followed by ‘‘a bit of a do’’ that night, with music, dancing, food and drinks.
Walton Hall was once the centre of the community and was an important part of the town’s history, said committee member Adrienne Wilcock.
‘‘The celebration is about what the hall has meant to the community,’’ she said.
‘‘I know it’s a building but it’s more than that – it’s everything it has been used for.’’
Quiz nights, weddings, playcentre, indoor bowls, Anzac services and many more events have been held at the hall over the years.
It was even used as a movie theatre and library before World War II.
The Walton Hall committee is asking anyone with old photographs or memorabilia from the hall to contact them as they would like to borrow them for a display.
