Community minded Keas flock to roadsides
Matamata’s Kea Scouts went on a treasure hunt of sorts along Centennial Drive on Thursday. The youngsters managed to turn an afternoon of picking up rubbish into a bit of an adventure.
Leaders Cathy O’Callaghan and Anna Mischefski said they were working towards their Silver Kea Awards by helping the community.
The boys were fresh from an overnight camp at Camp Gow in Walton, where they made rockets, raced down mudslides, went eeling and had a camp fire.
Kea Scouts is for 5 to 7-year-olds and is a pre-cursor to cubs and scouts.
Adventurer: Six-year-old William MacKenzie went in search of rubbish up a tree.
Mates: George O’Callaghan, 6, and Ryan Donderwinkel, 5, made sure there was no rubbish under the trees.
