Keep an eye out – school is in

Matamata Chronicle - - News -

Police would like to remind motorists that schools and kindergartens are back during the week starting May 6 and urge them to watch their speed.

A child hit by a vehicle travelling at 60kmh has only a 15 per cent chance of survival.

If that speed is reduced to 50kmh the chance increases to 55 30kmh to 95 per cent.

It is for that reason that police enforce a 40kmh speed limit around schools and the 20kmh limit around a stationary school bus.

Motorists need to drive with more care on school routes and around schools.
