At the age of 19, Hadleigh May already understands how the choices he makes now can have a lasting effect on his life.

Whether it’s been the sober driver for his mates, or going to the gym at the crack of dawn, he knows that these sacrifices will make a difference in his future.

These sacrifices have already started paying off for this hard working former Matamata College student. Hadleigh’s decision to pursue a career in the construction industry wasn’t influenced by that.

‘‘I thought it would be better if I had something to fall back on,’’ he said.

He plays for the Harbour Hawkes premier team and has already made it into the Otago U-19s.

Everyone who has been on Hadleigh’s journey has contributed something special and he acknowledges his family, coaches and anyone else who has helped.

Going places: Hadleigh May has been named in the New Zealand under-20 rugby team that will travel to Southern France at the end of May.
