Feel-good music tour
Matamata’s Gloss Beauty Boutique hosted singer-songwriter Chris Sanders on Friday as part of a one-of-a-kind music tour.
The six-date You Beauty tour includes performances in salons across Auckland and Tauranga, with all proceeds going towards women’s cancer support network Look Good Feel Better.
About 50 ladies turned out to support the tour at a Gloss VIP event at Daltons, raising a total of $500.
‘‘It was a fantastic night,’’ said Mr Sanders.
‘‘The ladies at the event said they really enjoyed the music, the makeup demos and of course the lovely food and wine.’’
Look Good Feel Better is a free service offered to women undergoing treatment for cancer.
They run beauty workshops to help women feel more confident and cope with the physical side effects of treatment.
‘‘We are incredibly excited to be a part of this very unique salon music tour,’’ said Look Good Feel Better general manager Yvonne Brownlie.
‘‘It means more women will find out about the support that is available to them or a friend who is dealing with cancer’’.
Originally from the UK, Mr Sanders owned a salon in Auckland for 10 years and has since worked behind the scenes at salons across the country.
‘‘It made sense for me to combine my musical gift and connection with the salon industry to help an organisation that supports women with cancer,’’ he said.
‘‘As a former salon owner, I saw first-hand how a good doll up can help the self-esteem and confidence of our clients who were battling cancer.’’
Mr Sanders is performing songs from his debut EP, Home Away From Home, on the tour, as well as material from his upcoming album.
He compares his melodic rock style with Crowded House and he has supported artists such as Tim Finn, Dave Dobbyn and Anika Moa.
His music is available on iTunes and all May sales will be donated to Look Good Feel Better. He will also donate 10c from every download of his iPhone and iPad app Salon Finder.
