Mapperley’s remarkable return

Matamata Chronicle - - Sport -

venture is one of the wise heads of the bloodstock industry, Garry Chittick.

The pair have combined resources to purchase He’s Remarkable from the partnership that raced him from the Roger James stable, and have set his stud fee at $4000 plus GST.

‘‘I’m so lucky to have a guy like Garry on-side; his experience in the breeding game and the support he’s offered are invaluable.’’

For his part, the former principal of Waikato Stud – who handed the reins over to his son Mark last year – is happy to give another member of the next generation of studmasters a helping hand.

‘‘When this horse became available and Simms and I got talking, I realised this was an ideal opportunity to get Mapperley back on the map,’’ said Garry.

‘‘To make an impact and build, a stud must have a stallion.

‘‘That’s something I learnt many years ago.’’

Garry identifies relevant comparisons between He’s Remarkable and the horse that propelled his career, Centaine.

‘‘They’re both horses that were great types and very well bred but due to circumstances didn’t get to reveal their true worth on the track.

‘‘I daresay that if they had I wouldn’t have been able to afford Centaine and Simms wouldn’t now have He’s Remarkable,’’ he said.

Looking to the future, it’s now time for He’s Remarkable to make his mark at Mapperley Stud.

Former classy galloper: He’s Remarkable, who will stand at Mapperley Stud this breeding season.
