On behalf of the Pohlen Hospital and Child Cancer Committee, I would especially like to send a message to our fabulous Matamata community!
As a result of a huge combined effort, we were all able to enjoy the Mid-Winter Christmas Festival, held at the beginning of this month.
What a sensational few days – the work put into organising this event has been going on for over a year.
All sections of our community have been involved – knitters, painters, carvers, electricians, singers, musicians, cooks, event planners, the most clever and original designers and dreamers, plumbers, farmers, incredibly hard workers, care givers and love sharers – of all ages, from all backgrounds. And all these people came together with their beautiful and supportive spirits, and enabled this delightful and magic time to light up some dreary grey days in our July wintry view.
The generosity of people, groups and businesses in their sponsorship and practical help, and the energy, time, and commitment given by so many is above and beyond anything we could expect.
But, again, our town stands up – and gives. Thank you all so much. This event raised over $16,000 to support our two charities, and accordingly, the money will be divided between them – wow.
So, while they will be both be so appreciative, and this will be said at a later date – our committee would truly like to express our gratitude to each and every one of you, so many people who gave, on many levels– to support our hospital ,and our children. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. – Elisabeth Atherton, Pohlen Hospital and Child Cancer Committee member
