Matamata Chronicle - - News - By KATRINA TANIRAU

For as long as he can remember, Matamata College student Logan Allen has had a rugby ball in his hands.

The 17-year-old, who plays at fullback, has had an impressive season with the college First XV and is starting to get recognised for his talents.

Out of 46 triallists, Logan was one of 26 who made it into the final Waikato U17 squad.

Having never made a representative team before, being picked for the squad was something Logan wasn’t expecting.

‘‘I got the phone call and I was stoked,’’ he said.

Playing rugby

Hinuera ‘‘pretty much all his life’’, this achievement is the icing on the cake for Logan.

His goal kicking skills helped his college team make it to the Waikato Rugby Secondary School’s 1st Division semi-final against Hamilton Boys’ High School where they narrowly missed out on victory.

Logan’s style of play has been compared to current Waikato Chiefs’ first five-eight Gareth Anscombe.

On his way: Logan Allen has secured a spot in the Waikato U17 rugby squad.
