Band gets silver first time up
Matamata College Jazz earned a silver award last weekend at their first ever New Zealand Concert Bands’ Association national festival.
It is the first year the college has had a jazz band and band director Barry Cullen said he was ‘‘rapt’’ with how they went.
‘‘ It was a really good result for our first year,’’ he said.
‘‘We can just go onwards and upwards from here – go for gold next year.’’ They were one of 15 high school bands on the first day of the event at Bethlehem College in Tauranga.
A sax quartet from Matamata College also earned a silver award.
