Flexible juniors are great sports
Matamata Primary was a standout at the Piako Matamata School Gymsport Festival last Thursday.
The school won first and second overall in the springers (juniors), first in the flyers (middle), and first and second in the twisters (senior) team sections.
Milla Taylor and Mollie Allison were first overall for their age groups, Shawna Stoner, Nina Trumm and Victoria Whyte were second, and Keeley d’Abo and Alesha Tong were third.
Oliver Howes was the overall winner of the open boys division.
Springers coach Amee Harland said the teams had spent two or three lunchtimes a week practising for the last two terms.
‘‘ They did an awesome job, they worked hard, and they deserved to do well,’’ she said.
‘‘We had lots of comments about how they were great sports as well.’’
The gymnasts will be off to the Waikato Regional Gymsports Festival later this month.
