Flex­i­ble ju­niors are great sports

Mata­mata Pri­mary was a stand­out at the Pi­ako Mata­mata School Gym­sport Fes­ti­val last Thurs­day.

The school won first and se­cond over­all in the springers (ju­niors), first in the fly­ers (mid­dle), and first and se­cond in the twisters (se­nior) team sec­tions.

Milla Tay­lor and Mol­lie Al­li­son were first over­all for their age groups, Shawna Stoner, Nina Trumm and Vic­to­ria Whyte were se­cond, and Kee­ley d’Abo and Alesha Tong were third.

Oliver Howes was the over­all win­ner of the open boys di­vi­sion.

Springers coach Amee Har­land said the teams had spent two or three lunchtimes a week prac­tis­ing for the last two terms.

‘‘ They did an awe­some job, they worked hard, and they de­served to do well,’’ she said.

‘‘We had lots of com­ments about how they were great sports as well.’’

The gym­nasts will be off to the Waikato Re­gional Gym­sports Fes­ti­val later this month.

Gold: Oliver Howes was win­ner of the boys open di­vi­sion.
