The Waikato Bay of Plenty Brass Band Association organises a competition for brass bands within the region and this year Matamata Brass hosted the event.

On Saturday, solo, ensemble and percussion events were held at Matamata Intermediate. This year there were 94 entries in the party events. On Sunday, the band events were held at Matamata College. Bands had 10 minutes to set up the stage to suit their band, and then up to 40 minutes to provide a programme with a variety of different pieces.

Matamata Brass incorporated a bit of theatre into their performance with band member Jessica Schweizer playing Skimbleshanks from the stage show Cats.

Katrina Tanirau took her camera along to capture Matamata Brass in action.
