Big­gest show in town is back

One hun­dred shows later and the event that ‘‘brings the coun­try to town’’ is still fun for the whole fam­ily.

The Mata­mata A&P As­so­ci­a­tion will cel­e­brate their cen­ten­nial show on Satur­day, Oc­to­ber 5, and it’s shap­ing up to be a grand af­fair.

Ex­ec­u­tive com­mit­tee mem­ber Kim­ber­ley Swap said that while this is a mod­ern event, it still holds true to the pi­o­neers who founded the show.

The first show was held on Thurs­day, March 30, 1911 and was held at the Mata­mata Sa­le­yards.

Mata­mata’s first Spring show was held on Oc­to­ber 13, 1962 at the re­quest of the Jersey Cat­tle Breeders.

‘‘Our spon­sors get be­hind the show each year and we are very grate­ful for their sup­port,’’ Mrs Swap said.

The show is now held on pri­vate land at 129 Sta­tion Rd in Mata­mata.
