You can learn to live the good life

The Matamata Community Garden and Matamata Budget Advisory Services are joining forces to put on a free community seminar on how to start your own vege garden.

The seminar is on Wednesday, October 16, at the Community Garden from 11am till 2pm.

A spokeswoman for Matamata Budget Advisory Services said it was an opportunity for everyone to get their hands dirty and learn the basics of gardening.

‘‘It’s a good chance for people to see what the Community Garden is all about – lots of people don’t know – and also get tips on how anyone can garden.’’

There will be giveaways on the day and lunchtime refreshments.

‘‘It’ll just be a really fun day that anyone can come to. If you’re a good gardener you can come and share some advice with everyone, and if you know nothing about gardening then there will be plenty to learn.’’

The aim is to encourage people in the community to start their own gardens or get involved in the community garden.

‘‘ One of the encouraging aspects of this is the enthusiasm of first-time gardeners and the health benefits fresh food and fresh air bring.’’

Registered attendees will also go in the draw to win a raised garden box valued at more than $100 donated by Matamata Timber and Joinery.

Other sponsors of the day are Daltons Plantation, Kaimai Garden Centre, Mitre 10, Egmont Seeds and Go Gardening Magazines.
