Cup money not wasted

Matamata Chronicle - - News -

I feel the narrow view of letter, submitted by PG Harford, is contrary of reality, in respect of government contribution toward contesting the cup. As stated in many reputable sources, I repeat here, the recoupment in GST/taxes etc have been an excellent return on this investment.

With the expertise of our boat building industries involving both yachts, the employment created, the profiling of our tech industries etc at the venue, and the attention attracted towards New Zealand with Team NZ competing on the world stage.

With the announcement that the Government is ready to contribute again is testament that they see the merit of this monetary return.

I have no qualms the previous writer support Oracle, as we are free to support any team/individual in our chosen sports.

But I doubt we would have witnessed such a dramatic spectacle that enveloped New Zealand, if Team NZ had not competed with such a competitive boat, coming very close to winning the event.

Long live Team NZ - we look forward to your involvement in the next America’s Cup.
