Check point finds cannabis
Police discovered almost a kilogram of cannabis concealed in a car after the driver was stopped at a routine check point in Matamata.
The Waikato booze bus was set up near town on Friday night when a Tauranga man was stopped for a breath alcohol test.
Sergeant Graham McGurk said his car smelt strongly of marijuana and after a brief search a small amount of cannabis was found.
Matamata staff then did a complete search of the car and nearly 1kg of dried cannabis was found.
The 37-year-old man was arrested for possession of cannabis for supply and was taken into custody in Hamilton. He was to appear in the Hamilton District Court on Monday.
