Gran is back at school

Youngsters tugged at the arms of their grandparents as they showed them around their classrooms at the Hinuera Primary Grandparent’s Day.

Grandparents, along with other friends of the school, were invited to spend the afternoon with the children on Thursday.

Principal Dean McDonnell said it was the first time they had held the day in a few years but that it was always popular.

‘‘It’s beautiful to be able to invite all the people in and to see all the enthusiasm they have for the school,’’ he said.

‘‘ It’s just connecting with the community – which is huge for us as a community school.’’

It was a buzz for the children to have visitors in the classrooms and an opportunity for them to share their hard work and feel proud of it, he said.

Children who didn’t have visitors could buddy up with other children so no one was left out.
