Piarere Young Farmers have stepped up to support the Matamata Lions and to help other young people in the community.

The club is hosting a charity quiz night tomorrow, with proceeds going toward the establishment of a Matamata Leos Club.

Leo stands for leadership, experience, opportunity, and the club would encourage young people to be involved in their community.

Lions president Warren Feek said he was working with Matamata College to try and get students involved. ‘‘The idea is for youth to help fund youth.’’

Lions invest a large share of money they raise helping young people with scholarships, programmes such as Outward Bound, and overseas experiences.

The quiz night kicks off at the Matamata Club at 7pm and prizes include hampers, spa and dinner vouchers, and much more.

Events coordinator Dell Crump said it was the first charity night they had held this year but they hoped to host more.

‘‘It’s a good way to get involved in the community and get the word around for a good cause.’’

Twenty teams of four will compete and anyone interested in entering can contact Dell on 021 710 754 with their team name.
