Thuggery

Matamata Chronicle - - Opinion -

What’s happening to our town?

What’s happening in our town after hours is really concerning and getting out of control.

For those who don’t know, Matamata has a group of thugs targeting people walking home after hours from bars and restaurants.

Every weekend we hear of more young and not so young getting accosted on their way home. Last weekend alone there were three we learnt about.

What, as a community, can we do to stop it because it’s everyone’s right to be able to walk home from the pub without worrying about some gutless thug. And I say gutless as they hide in the shadows and jump out when you’re not expecting it and rob or bash you, and they only pick on people alone or couples.

This is crazy, the police were told about the two latest and a phone was tracked to an area via find MyPhone technology and nothing was done. I’m wondering if it’s the same people who are tipping over rubbish bins in people’s driveways and breaking into homes at night while we sleep.
