Suspicious vehicle sought by police
Police are urgently trying to locate a black Volvo car that has been seen in Matamata twice over the last week.
The car, registration number GQA1, drove up to two properties in town and captured the occupants attention by beeping the horn.
When the occupants came out, the people in the car asked strange questions, such as if they had any paint or if they needed any painting done.
Sergeant Graham McGurk said he strongly suspected the occupants of the car were checking to see if anyone was at home.
Similar activity involving the same car had been reported near Ngaruawahia, he said.
Police believe the car may be linked to a group known as the Bitumen Bandits, who are working illegally laying sub- standard driveways.
It may also be
linked to a group running a roofing scam, who work under the name A1 Roofing, said Mr McGurk.
He strongly urged anyone who saw the car to call police on 111 immediately.
