Amazing! Awesome! Inspiring!: These were the words used to describe Moss Burmester after his visit to St Joseph’s Catholic School last Tuesday. Moss, in his role as an Olympic Ambassador, talked to the pupils about his dream to become an Olympic swimmer. He highlighted the importance of aiming high, setting goals and developing the resilience and determination to achieve them. This fitted in beautifully with the school’s current focus of survival and the skills we need to handle the tough times. Year 6 pupil Courtney Leggett said: ‘‘Moss, told us your dream can become a reality if you set goals and go for it!’’ His talk kept everyone totally enthralled and the pupils were fascinated by the stories of his involvement at various World and Commonwealth games, his training regime and – of course – his medals. ‘‘It was a wonderful experience,’’ said teacher Martyn Wilkins. ‘‘He has truly inspired all our students.’’
