Fond memories left in a bible

Matamata Chronicle - - News -

Left behind: Matamata Genealogy Group is hoping to return a handwritten letter, a 49-year-old postcard, an old newspaper article and a wedding photo to the family of the original owners. Secretary Christine Young said local Celia Moana found the keepsakes tucked away in a bible she bought at a garage sale more than a year ago.

‘‘The family probably didn’t realise they were in the bible when it was sold,’’ said Young.

‘‘It would be nice if they went back to a family member.’’

The letter and postcard are addressed to a Len Sutcliffe on Burwood Rd, with the postcard sent from Rome in 1965. The article refers to General Charles de Gaulle and his involvement in international money conferences. It is undated.

The wedding photo has a number of names scrawled on the back, including the surnames Griffin, Tyson, MaCohhum and Atkinson.
