Thames/ Coromandel Mayor Glenn Leach will speak at a meeting about the amalgamation of Waikato councils.

The Waikato branch of Property Council New Zealand – a nonprofit organisation that represents property owners, managers and investors – has called a meeting to present its submission to the Local Government Commission in favour of amalgamation.

Also speaking will be Thomas Gibbons, chairman of the amalgamation subcommittee, and Natalie Jackson, a professor of demography at the University of Waikato.

The meeting for Property Council New Zealand members and their guests will be on April 30 at Wintec.

The submission says the organisation wants a ‘‘ reorganisation of local government in the Waikato’’.

The property council seeks a unitary authority called the Greater Waikato Council, with one regional mayor.
