Performance perception heightened

On track: On Tuesday, April 8, Room 1 from Matamata Primary School went to the new Avantidrome in Cambridge.

The trip was in conjunction with the term theme – faster, further, longer, stronger – in which the key questions were: How do we get the sporting edge? And how do we improve our performance?

The children and parents were taught how to use the track bikes by accredited track cyclists and had the opportunity to cycle around the track.

They were given a tour of the velodrome and spoken to by the New Zealand team coach and a sprint pursuit athlete, learning what it takes to be a top athlete and the sacrifices that athlete takes to be at the top of their chosen discipline.

Teacher Shanekea Butler said it was a fantastic opportunity and a very valuable facility to have in Waikato. She would like to thank Baigent Motors for the sponsorship of a van and the parents who came along to help out on the day.
