SparX fly on final night

Matamata Chronicle - - News -

One of the first bands to ever perform at Redoubt Bar and Eatery will entertain Matamata audiences for the final time on Friday night.

SparX, a two-piece from Tauranga made up of Brian and Shona Dallow, has played at Redoubt more than 50 times since 2006.

‘‘We started working for Jacob [Henderson] when he was managing the Redoubt in Te Awamutu,’’ said Mr Dallow.

‘‘When he and [wife] Kelly opened the Matamata Redoubt eight years ago, we were one of the first bands he booked.’’

The pair have been performing together for 12 years and said the Redoubt was one of their favourite venues.

‘‘We quickly struck up a rapport with a crowd of young regulars and we had many Friday nights there when it was so packed, you could hardly move.

‘‘ Without exception, the management and staff have always been wonderful to us.’’

SparX has also performed at the bar Christmas Eve for the past five years.

In June, they are packing away their instruments and heading to Europe for the northern summer, then on an extensive tour of India.

They plan to open a music-based cafe in Tauranga on their return.

‘‘We are hoping everyone who has supported us will come along for one final night at Redoubt.

‘‘We want to thank all of you for being so supportive over the last eight years and promise we will give it all we’ve got on our last night.’’
