Even in pitch darkness, glistening tears could be seen streaming down the faces of many who turned out on Friday to acknowledge the bravery and sacrifice of New Zealand and Australian soldiers at Gallipoli 99 years ago. Matamata Memorial Returned and Services Association president Graeme Waterson also paid tribute to soldiers who had fought for New Zealand in other conflicts, including World War II.
