Even in pitch dark­ness, glis­ten­ing tears could be seen stream­ing down the faces of many who turned out on Fri­day to ac­knowl­edge the brav­ery and sac­ri­fice of New Zealand and Aus­tralian soldiers at Gal­lipoli 99 years ago. Mata­mata Me­mo­rial Re­turned and Ser­vices As­so­ci­a­tion pres­i­dent Graeme Water­son also paid trib­ute to soldiers who had fought for New Zealand in other con­flicts, in­clud­ing World War II. Hun­dreds of Mata­mata res­i­dents at­tended the Mata­mata Dawn Pa­rade, as well as the civic ser­vices in both Wal­ton and Mata­mata. Pho­tos: and
