Civic cen­tre rebuild de­bate

Fur­ther dis­cus­sion around what should be done with Mata­mata’s Civic Cen­tre is tak­ing place at to­day’s coun­cil meet­ing.

Now that con­sul­ta­tion with the pub­lic has con­cluded, Mata­mata Pi­ako District Coun­cil have said the ma­jor­ity of sub­mis­sions re­ceived sup­port the op­tion to rebuild the me­mo­rial cen­tre rather than ren­o­vat­ing or re­pair­ing it.

In to­day’s coun­cil agenda, it is out­lined to coun­cil­lors that the next phase is a se­ries of work­shops dur­ing Au­gust that will in­clude cur­rent users, po­ten­tial fu­ture users, com­mu­nity groups and the com­mu­nity at large by ‘‘pro­vid­ing them with the op­por­tu­nity to in­flu­ence the de­tail and ac­tiv­i­ties to be con­sid­ered in the pro­posed fa­cil­i­ties’’.
