Lost farmer does it right

The ac­tions of Mata­mata farmer when he ran into trou­ble in the Te Ta­pui scenic re­serve dur­ing rough weather are an ex­am­ple for oth­ers to fol­low, po­lice say. The farmer was search­ing for cat­tle that broke through a boundary fence and had gone into the re­serve. He lost his bear­ings at about 5pm last Wed­nes­day, and he called his wife who called th po­lice.

The farmer called again at 7pm to say that he had found a pos­sum bait line.

A search and res­cue dog and han­dler and two trackers en­tered the bush and lo­cated the man shortly be­fore 11pm.
