Hinuera never in danger

McPherson Contractors Hinuera 11 Leamington 0

Played away at Leamington, the gold and blacks rounded out the second round with a solid victory.

Played in constant rain, Hinuera made all the early running, Jason Brady and Fergus King particularly featuring.

To the backs did the honours go however. Moving the ball wide from one side of the field to the other, veteran centre Todd Allen sliced through to score unopposed in the 10th minute, Toby O’Reilly unsuccessful with the conversion.

Hinuera were living dangerously in their own quarter and when play broke down Matt Ring was on hand to tidy up.

His forwards worked play downfield for O’Reilly to slot a penalty in the 22nd minute, Hinuera 8-nil.

King scampered up field in a 60 metre burst but was unable to link up. The second spell saw increasingly wet conditions with the second penalty kicked by O’Reilly the only addition. Jeremy Kidd did his best to alter matters with a dropped goal attempt which went about a foot, much to the amazement of supporter Dick Nesbitt.

He couldn’t work out whether to inhale or exhale on his wet ciggy. Zane Herrick was player of the day.

Next week home to Te Rapa.
