String in archers’ bow
Over the last three years, Lakeview Archers have participated in an inter-club series between Thames Valley Deerstalkers Association and the Franklin County Archers.
This competition is held over three months, each club hosting an event, and previous years the shield has eluded the local Lakeview Archers Club, based in Piarere.
The 2014 inter-club series began at Lakeview Archers in June with a fantastic turnout of club members from as far as Huntly and Hamilton north, Tirau and Putaruru south; Te Puke to the East; and then Matamata, Cambridge and surrounding areas.
The next event was Thames Valley in July, again the numbers of competitors was high from each club and the competition was really starting to heat up.
The final was held at the Franklin club in August with all three clubs having a great turnout of numbers.
For some competitors
this was their first taste of real competition, while others were seasoned to regular national and international tournaments, ranging in ages from 70 to seven years, with 14 different divisions.
Lakeview Archers brought home the shield from Franklin, dominating all but four of the divisions over Thames Valley and Franklin. The overall point scoring was based on club members participating.
Lakeview Archers are a local field archery club hosted by Christine and Don Finnegan at their property 265 Hora Hora Rd, Piarere. The club is open every Sunday and during daylight savings on Wednesday evenings from 4.30pm.
