String in archers’ bow

Over the last three years, Lake­view Archers have par­tic­i­pated in an in­ter-club se­ries be­tween Thames Val­ley Deer­stalk­ers As­so­ci­a­tion and the Franklin County Archers.

This com­pe­ti­tion is held over three months, each club host­ing an event, and pre­vi­ous years the shield has eluded the lo­cal Lake­view Archers Club, based in Piarere.

The 2014 in­ter-club se­ries be­gan at Lake­view Archers in June with a fan­tas­tic turnout of club mem­bers from as far as Huntly and Hamil­ton north, Ti­rau and Pu­taruru south; Te Puke to the East; and then Mata­mata, Cam­bridge and sur­round­ing ar­eas.

The next event was Thames Val­ley in July, again the num­bers of com­peti­tors was high from each club and the com­pe­ti­tion was re­ally start­ing to heat up.

The fi­nal was held at the Franklin club in Au­gust with all three clubs hav­ing a great turnout of num­bers.

For some com­peti­tors

this was their first taste of real com­pe­ti­tion, while oth­ers were sea­soned to reg­u­lar na­tional and in­ter­na­tional tour­na­ments, rang­ing in ages from 70 to seven years, with 14 dif­fer­ent di­vi­sions.

Lake­view Archers brought home the shield from Franklin, dom­i­nat­ing all but four of the di­vi­sions over Thames Val­ley and Franklin. The over­all point scor­ing was based on club mem­bers par­tic­i­pat­ing.

Lake­view Archers are a lo­cal field archery club hosted by Chris­tine and Don Fin­negan at their prop­erty 265 Hora Hora Rd, Piarere. The club is open ev­ery Sun­day and dur­ing day­light sav­ings on Wed­nes­day evenings from 4.30pm.
