A ton for Mata­mata ju­nior side

Mata­mata’s ju­nior foot­ball 9th grade team, the Mata­mata Dragons, won their 13th con­sec­u­tive league game of 13 this sea­son.

Scor­ing nine in the game, the team sur­passed the hun­dred goals mark in style.

Coach Gareth Fan­nin said this was a trib­ute to the team game they have de­vel­oped this sea­son, pass­ing and us­ing the flanks to get in be­hind the op­po­si­tion.

‘‘100 goals in one sea­son is a rare event, not re­peated that of­ten by many teams in any sea­son.

‘‘ It’s a credit to a great bunch of en­er­getic and ea­ger to learn kids. The fu­ture of Mata­mata foot­ball is de­vel­op­ing well,’’ he said.
