Cadets gain top awards

Matamata Chronicle - - News - By ABBY BROWN

Two Matamata College students have gained the highest youth award from St John.

Year 13 student Jessie Walker and year 11 student Talya Berry won the Grand Prize Award by gaining 12 badges over four years.

The badges were for skills, including cooking and first aid, Jessie said.

They also gained them by competing in competitions, showing leadership and going on camps.

The awards were presented by the Governor General in Wellington recently ‘‘ which was pretty awesome,’’ Jessie said.

Jessie became involved in St John because she wants to be a nurse. She entered it through a career pathways event at school and was ‘‘hooked’’.
