Trails have big impact
The impact the Hauraki Rail Trail and Waikato River Trails has had on the community and the trend toward cycling for recreation has led Sport Waikato to establish a sister event for the ECHO Walking Festival.
A total of 40 spectacular events with a focus on cycling will make up the PowerCo Gear Up for Summer bike festival to be launched on September 28 until November 2.
Sport Waikato district coordinators from ThamesCoromandel, Hauraki, MatamataPiako and South Waikato have joined forces to put the festival together and they are excited about the variety of events on the programme.
Matamata- Piako district coordinator Lou Beer said there was definitely something on offer for everyone.
‘‘Whether you are a novice, social or expert rider, we are sure you will find an event that will appeal. Through the festival, we want to encourage all New Zealanders to enjoy pedalling regularly, to appreciate the great facilities within our region, and to keep fit and active.’’
Have a go at BMX, mountain bike trail rides, three generations scavenger hunt, social road riding, a wheelie Halloween and the very popular Frocks on Bikes are just some of the events in the PowerCo Gear Up for Summer festival.
Participate in any event and be in to win an Avanti bike or join the Frocks on Bikes ride and be in to win one of two super retro step-through cycles.
