Trails have big im­pact

The im­pact the Hau­raki Rail Trail and Waikato River Trails has had on the com­mu­nity and the trend to­ward cy­cling for recre­ation has led Sport Waikato to es­tab­lish a sis­ter event for the ECHO Walk­ing Fes­ti­val.

A to­tal of 40 spec­tac­u­lar events with a fo­cus on cy­cling will make up the Pow­erCo Gear Up for Sum­mer bike fes­ti­val to be launched on Septem­ber 28 un­til Novem­ber 2.

Sport Waikato dis­trict co­or­di­na­tors from ThamesCoro­man­del, Hau­raki, Mata­mataPi­ako and South Waikato have joined forces to put the fes­ti­val to­gether and they are ex­cited about the va­ri­ety of events on the pro­gramme.

Mata­mata- Pi­ako dis­trict co­or­di­na­tor Lou Beer said there was def­i­nitely some­thing on of­fer for ev­ery­one.

‘‘Whether you are a novice, so­cial or ex­pert rider, we are sure you will find an event that will ap­peal. Through the fes­ti­val, we want to en­cour­age all New Zealan­ders to en­joy ped­alling reg­u­larly, to ap­pre­ci­ate the great fa­cil­i­ties within our re­gion, and to keep fit and ac­tive.’’

Have a go at BMX, moun­tain bike trail rides, three gen­er­a­tions scav­enger hunt, so­cial road rid­ing, a wheelie Hal­loween and the very popular Frocks on Bikes are just some of the events in the Pow­erCo Gear Up for Sum­mer fes­ti­val.

Par­tic­i­pate in any event and be in to win an Avanti bike or join the Frocks on Bikes ride and be in to win one of two su­per retro step-through cy­cles.
