Group plans obstacle course for big event
Starfish Social Services is supporting a group of young people to put on an adventure themed youth event.
The organising committee want the people aged between 12 and 24 that the event is aimed at to not only come up with a name for the event but to also make suggestions on what could be in the obstacle course. So far the group has suggested using army nets, tyres, hay bales and wet sponges to throw at people.
The event will take place on December 12 from 5pm to 10pm. The obstacle course will run from about 5pm to 7pm then a band will play for three hours.
The organisers are planning to hold it at Swap Park, with council permission, and hope to book Flaming Nora as the band.
The Ministry of Youth Development gave Starfish three years worth of funding for a yearly event, Starfish coordinator Jo McNaughton said.
The funds are held by the Matamata Piako District Council until they sign off on the event.
Last year’s youth event was Road Rage and the year before was a masquerade ball.
