Group plans ob­sta­cle course for big event

Starfish So­cial Ser­vices is sup­port­ing a group of young peo­ple to put on an ad­ven­ture themed youth event.

The or­gan­is­ing com­mit­tee want the peo­ple aged be­tween 12 and 24 that the event is aimed at to not only come up with a name for the event but to also make sug­ges­tions on what could be in the ob­sta­cle course. So far the group has sug­gested us­ing army nets, tyres, hay bales and wet sponges to throw at peo­ple.

The event will take place on De­cem­ber 12 from 5pm to 10pm. The ob­sta­cle course will run from about 5pm to 7pm then a band will play for three hours.

The or­gan­is­ers are plan­ning to hold it at Swap Park, with coun­cil per­mis­sion, and hope to book Flaming Nora as the band.

The Min­istry of Youth De­vel­op­ment gave Starfish three years worth of fund­ing for a yearly event, Starfish co­or­di­na­tor Jo McNaughton said.

The funds are held by the Mata­mata Pi­ako Dis­trict Coun­cil un­til they sign off on the event.

Last year’s youth event was Road Rage and the year be­fore was a mas­quer­ade ball.
