Stormers shaping up well
Team prepare for tournament in January
Matamata cricket players in the Piako Stormers are seeing great improvement only weeks into the season.
The team is coached by Peter Kane ( head coach and batting coach) and Steve Anderson (bowling coach).
Manager Wayne Robb said the boys have been training for four weeks and improving fast.
‘‘We played our first game of our season against Cambridge and won,’’ he said.
Cambridge made just 90 runs off their 30 overs thanks to the Stormers’ bowling accuracy.
Piako chased down the total in the 30th over.
For Piako, Jake Harris was outstanding with bowling and batting.
Jack Kane took two brilliant catches.
The coaches were very happy with the boys’ first game of the representative season.
‘‘ We are playing warm-up games in the leadup to travelling down to the Riverbend Tournament in January at Hastings,’’ Robb said.
