Full house for festive choir

Matamata Chronicle - - News -

The Matamata Christmas Choir performed carols over four days, November 25, 27, 28 and 29, at Matamata’s All Saints Anglican Church.

The audience for the Sunday matinee was ‘‘chock-a-block’’, one of the organisers, Margaret Hendry said.

‘‘They were sitting in the choir stalls,’’ she said.

The afternoon performance was perfect for the elderly residents of the Country Lodge.

Hendry was also proud of coorganiser Ben Bartelink’s determination not to let a hip operation stop him from being part of the choir.

She said Bartelink had been devastated his hip operation could put him out of action, but MC Colin Kemplen had told him ‘ you sing with your mouth, not your hips’ so he performed in the choir and just sat throughout most of the performance.
