Coastal NZ inspires local artist

Matamata Chronicle - - News -

Self-taught artist Glennis Gaeng artist of the month.

The Matamata Art Society member is exhibiting a selection of her work at Matamata Westpac as part of the society’s link with the Pohlen Foundation Trust.

A portion, 20 per cent, of all sales goes to the Foundation.

Gaeng said she does all sorts of creative work and in the past has even painted on corrugated iron. She loves painting New Zealand coastal scenes and enjoys incorporating pohutakawa trees into her art. Gaeng said she was relatively new to the area. She has been painting most of her life and has also illustrated her own children’s books she has written for her grandchildren.

‘‘I get a lot of enjoyment out of art and it’s lovely to be able to support the local hospital,’’ she said.
