Local players make summer squads
A number of Matamata cricketers have been selected at a representative level this summer.
Waikato Valley Cricket has announced its senior men’s team, along with the primary boys, junior secondary and senior secondary sides.
Featuring on debut for the senior men’s team is Hinuera’s Henry Cameron.
The senior men’s team had their first match against Poverty Bay in Cambridge on November 29 and 30.
Cameron was again announced in the squad to play at the Fergus Hickey Rosebowl Three Day Tournament in Taupo from December 7-9.
In the primary boys’ side, three local Matamata players have been selected to compete in the Northern Districts age group tournament this week.
Matamata’s Benedict Hardie captained the side and was joined by Cam Cresswell and David Hancock.
In the junior secondary team which played in Manu- rewa earlier this month, Blake Robinson was named. This side won the Northern Districts tournament after chasing the Valley’s 240 in the final, the boys bowled Northland out for 231 in a thriller.
The senior secondary team, which plays in Gisbourne next week, doesn’t feature players from Matamata.
