Lo­cal play­ers make sum­mer squads

A num­ber of Mata­mata crick­eters have been se­lected at a rep­re­sen­ta­tive level this sum­mer.

Waikato Val­ley Cricket has an­nounced its se­nior men’s team, along with the pri­mary boys, ju­nior sec­ondary and se­nior sec­ondary sides.

Fea­tur­ing on de­but for the se­nior men’s team is Hin­uera’s Henry Cameron.

The se­nior men’s team had their first match against Poverty Bay in Cam­bridge on Novem­ber 29 and 30.

Cameron was again an­nounced in the squad to play at the Fergus Hickey Rose­bowl Three Day Tour­na­ment in Taupo from De­cem­ber 7-9.

In the pri­mary boys’ side, three lo­cal Mata­mata play­ers have been se­lected to com­pete in the North­ern Dis­tricts age group tour­na­ment this week.

Mata­mata’s Bene­dict Hardie cap­tained the side and was joined by Cam Cress­well and David Han­cock.

In the ju­nior sec­ondary team which played in Manu- rewa ear­lier this month, Blake Robin­son was named. This side won the North­ern Dis­tricts tour­na­ment after chas­ing the Val­ley’s 240 in the fi­nal, the boys bowled North­land out for 231 in a thriller.

The se­nior sec­ondary team, which plays in Gis­bourne next week, doesn’t fea­ture play­ers from Mata­mata.
