Don’t forget the animals over Christmas and summer break

Matamata Chronicle - - Happy New Year - By ABBY BROWN

Donations of anything from clothing to furniture or bric-abrac to the Matamata SPCA shop will benefit animals in the Hamilton SPCA, the shop manager Christine Sterrett says.

‘‘We are always pleased to get donations so we can help the animals,’’ she said.

She also had advice for pet owners over the traditionally hot Christmas period.

She advised people who might be travelling to not leave pets in hot cars with the windows up.

And if pet owners are leav- ing animals at home while they holiday they should ask a neighbour or friend to check on and feed and water the animal everyday.

She also said any new pet should be for the pet’s lifetime, not just for Christmas.

If a potential pet owner has doubts that they or their chil- dren could commit to looking after a cute kitten once it has become a cat or any other animal long term, then they shouldn’t buy one, she said.

The Matamata SPCA shop has animals up for adoption from the Hamilton SPCA at the shop every Saturday.
