Mata­mata’s new­est cricket pitch hosted its maiden game on Sun­day af­ter­noon with a group of ‘‘crick­eters’’ keen to test the wicket.

The Re­doubt Su­per Over took place on Re­doubt Laneway with about 18 com­peti­tors ea­ger to claim the top prize.

Each con­tes­tant faced an over with the rest tak­ing it in turns to bowl. The two play­ers with the most runs went into sud­den death, or the ‘‘su­per over’’.

For­mer Black Cap and present New World Mata­mata owner­op­er­a­tor Matthew Hart was on hand to al­lo­cate ‘‘runs’’.

The vic­tor was for­mer lo­cal cricket star Bucket Morey prov­ing he’s still got it, beat­ing among oth­ers his son Jake.
