Wicket is well-tested
Matamata’s newest cricket pitch hosted its maiden game on Sunday afternoon with a group of ‘‘cricketers’’ keen to test the wicket.
The Redoubt Super Over took place on Redoubt Laneway with about 18 competitors eager to claim the top prize.
Each contestant faced an over with the rest taking it in turns to bowl. The two players with the most runs went into sudden death, or the ‘‘super over’’.
Former Black Cap and present New World Matamata owneroperator Matthew Hart was on hand to allocate ‘‘runs’’.
The victor was former local cricket star Bucket Morey proving he’s still got it, beating among others his son Jake.
