Relax with golf before race meet

Matamata Chronicle - - Sport -

Keen golfers are invited to join jockeys and trainers at the J Swap Contractors Matamata Breeders’ Stakes golf tournament for a relaxing round of golf before the serious business of horse racing starts.

The tournament, held at Matamata Golf Club, is the day before Breeders’ Stakes and is a shotgun start, with everyone starting at the same time – at 11am – at various places around the green. Entry is $25 and there are betting vouchers for Breeders’ Stakes to be won, tournament organiser Brad Smith said.

At the 11th hole there will be a hospitality stop with a barbecue and beers. A hospitality cart will be going around as well.

Also on the 11th, golfers can bet on whether they will hit the ball onto the green and Frank Vosper will be giving the odds.

Smith would prefer people to enter before the event on February 20, but they may enter on the day. Ring the club manager, Graeme Reid, on 07 888 6109 to enter. Entrants must report half an hour before the event starts.
