Show casts its leads
The search is over, the Princess of Piako has been found.
Late last year the search began in earnest for a princess to take the lead role in Matamata Musical Theatre’s Princess of Piako.
Auditions were held and director Sharon Holmes, who also wrote the show, said she now has a princess, along with a wonderful cast of around 40.
Holmes said there
no shortage of people wanting to audition.
She said all the young people were very talented and they were all excited to be able to put of a show for the community. ‘‘ Grandparents and parents should be excited too,’’ she said.
Kennedy Park, 12, has been cast as Cinderella with Ben Pilmore-Evans, 11, as the prince.
This will be Kennedy’s first show, while Ben has done a few before.
Kennedy said she gets a bit of stage fright, but said she ‘‘should be OK’’.
Rehearsals are being held at least three times a week in the lead up to the May show.
Kennedy and Ben said it was nice to be in a show with other young people from around the area.
Princess of Piako opens on May 3. Keep an eye on the Chronicle for when tickets go on sale.
