Steverson adds fours to list of season wins

Matamata Chronicle - - Sport -

At last the ladies championship fours has finally been completed.

On March 21 the semifinal was held when Ada Steverson (S) with Zelda Clements, Carol Daisley and Jan Wills beat Mavis Buchanan (S) with Elaine James, Nancy Kidner and Beth Vosper by 14 points to 10.

April 4 saw the final held, when Rita Donderwinkel (S) with Pearl Hicks, Jane Bartelink ( sub for Shirley MacLeod sick) and Janine Turner (who all had a bye after the third round) met Steverson and her team and was beaten by 18 points to 9 after 14 ends.

Thus Steverson and her team are the ladies champion fours for 2014/15 season.

This means that Steverson has won the champion singles, pairs, triples and fours for the season. It must be a record for a bowler.

There is no champion mixed singles result as yet, cancelled twice due to inclement weather.

On Thursday, April 2 a triples day was held which saw 23 players enjoy a good day’s bowls.

New bowler Francie Canty was welcomed. After a pizza lunch and a third game, winners for the day were Jim Gray and Jane Bartlelink with runners-up Doug Caird with Doug Johnson and Carol Daisley.
