Matamata police are thanking neighbours who stopped a neighbour from being burgled in Hamilton and helped them find someone they were seeking for a crime in Matamata. A 24-year-old was charged with two counts of burglary and unlawfully being on a property by Hamilton police. Matamata police also charged him with being unlawfully on a premise in Matamata.
An attempt to enter a business on Hetana St failed. There was an attempt to enter a house on Tower Rd. Trojan tools were taken.
A 37-year-old man was arrested for male assaults a female following a domestic incident. A 24-year-old man was arrested for breach of bail conditions. A 25- year- old man was held for detoxification after police were called to deal with two men fighting a family feud. Police are investigating a burglary of a liquor store after people used the delivery entrance to take a quantity of alcohol. A black or dark green van, possibly a Honda Odyssey, was used.
A 19-year-old man was arrested for breach of bail. Two 21-year- olds and a 34- year- old were arrested for disorderly conduct likely to cause violence after police were called to a brawl on George St. Two were subdued with pepper spray but one continued to square up to fight after being sprayed so Matamata police used a taser for the first time.
Two neighbouring properties on Puketutu Rd were burgled. Police are concerned as it is the second time this year one of the properties has been burgled.
Matamata Squash Club was broken into and chocolate taken.
A vehicle on Tawari St was entered and a Navman taken.
Police attended two crashes. One was a non- injury where a car crashed into a power pole on Landsdowne Rd. The occupant was lucky to get out of the car as the power line was still arcing over the car. Three people were taken to Tauranga hospital after two cars collided at the intersection of State Highways 27 and 29.
