Four-hour trek worth effort for motocross team

Matamata Chronicle - - Sport - By ABBY BROWN

The four-hour drive to Taranaki was worth it for Matamata College’s motocross team, team captain Dylan Ryan says. The team placed first overall out of all the North Island schools at the North Island Secondary School Motocross Championships on May 23.

Ryan came first in the year 12 section; team-mate Taylor Nater came second in that section. The rest of team placed well. Carl Tiddy came fifth and Cameron Colville eighth in the year 13 section; Tyler Lang was ninth in the year 11 section.

Ryan said the conditions were good but cold and only got better as the racing went on with rain holding off until racing was done for the day.

‘‘The track got challenging by the end of the day with large ruts and bumps forming.’’ He said the racing was close and very intense in all classes, which were based on year level.

The team would like to thank everybody who helped them get their matching team shirts.

The event was originally planned for May 16 but was postponed because of some less than desirable weather.
