Watercolours wow at bank

Matamata Chronicle - - News -

Lois Allen, pictured, the Matamata Art Society’s featured artist this month, usually creates watercolours but also dabbles in acrylics.

‘‘My mum was an oil painter so I didn’t want to compete with her so I started doing watercolours and now I prefer it,’’ the retired school teacher said.

She took her mum’s advice and started painting before she retired.

Lois, who is also involved in public speaking and drama, thinks the monthly exhibition at the local Westpac branch is a ‘‘neat idea’’ because a percentage of the proceeds from each painting sold goes to Pohlen Hospital. It also showcases the variety of talent that the local art society has.
